Being Creative
“Odd how the creative power at once brings the whole universe to order.”
– Virginia WoolfIs your anxiety sky-high? When your imagination is stumbling around too much, redirect it. Turn to writing, singing, running, painting or picking flowers. Don’t forget board games, word games and puzzles. Journaling or looking at favorite magazines or movies can be helpful. Does warm water help you feel better? Find a hot tub. Not sure what calms you down? Try a new hobby, maybe something you’ve always wanted to learn. Meditation and deep breathing are relaxation tools you can use anywhere. Ask someone to pray with you, or walk together to a peaceful, silent space. Too depressed to do anything? Get your favorite person or pet to lie in bed with you, sharing their energy and love for you. Don't be too proud to accept anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medications. This may be just the time for them. They can help raise your spirits just enough to handle the stress in a more healthy way. Too overwhelmed or numb? Temporary denial can be a good tool to use when things get out of hand (just don't escape into it all the time). Develop a routine that brings you pleasure. This creative coping can make you feel better and look forward to every day. These authors have other creative ideas to get you started.
